Log remakes and see what they cost

Record every remade or recut piece with the reason and cost, and see your remake count, cost and top reason for the month.

A remake eats a slab and a day of shop time. Logging each one, with the reason and the cost, shows you where the mistakes come from: templating, the saw, the install or the material.

Before you start

  • Remakes need the Pro plan (Shop Production Tracking).
  • Owners, Admins, Office and Fabricator users can open Shop → Remakes.
  • Fabricators don't see cost fields in the form or table unless Company settings → Team access → Show job prices to the field crew is on.

Log a remake

  1. Go to Shop → Remakes.
  2. Click Log remake.
  3. Pick the Job.
  4. Pick the Reason:
    • Template / Measurement Error
    • Fabrication Error
    • Damaged at Install
    • Material Defect
    • Customer Change
    • Other
  5. Check the Date. It starts as today.
  6. Pick who was Responsible (optional).
  7. Enter the Material cost and Labor cost. The total adds up for you.
  8. Describe What happened?
  9. Click Create.

You can also log a remake from the job: Slabs & shop → Remakes → Log remake. The job is filled in for you.

Important: Logging a remake doesn't change any slab or add production steps. If you need a new slab, reserve it in slab inventory. If the piece goes back through the shop, reset or add steps on the job's Production tab.

Read the monthly numbers

The top of the page shows the current month:

Box What it shows
Remakes this month How many. Red when there's at least one.
Remake cost this month Material plus labor, in dollars.
Top reason The most common reason, with a percent breakdown.

Good to know: The monthly cost box shows to everyone who can open Remakes, including Fabricators, even when crew prices are turned off.

Find and review remakes

  • The list shows date, job, reason, responsible person, description, and material, labor and total cost, with a total at the bottom.
  • Filter by Reason, Responsible or This month.
  • Click Edit to fix a remake, or Delete to remove it.

Tip: Review remakes by reason once a month with your crew. If most are Template / Measurement Error, look at templating first.
