Send a layout for customer approval
Email the customer your slab layout to approve and sign from their phone, follow up on the answer, and move the job into production.
Before you cut, have the customer sign off on where the seams go and how the veining flows. SlabBoard emails them a link to the layout. They approve and sign with a finger, or ask for changes, from any phone or computer. An approval moves the job into production.
Before you start
- Layout approval needs the Pro plan.
- The job's customer needs an email address. Without one, nothing is sent and the layout is not saved either.
- Layout approval is sent from jobs, not quotes. On a quote, the customer already sees the countertop preview on the quote page.
Send the layout from the slab layout
- Open the job and click Slab layout.
- Check that every part is placed and nothing is yellow, orange or red in the Summary.
- Click ✉ Send for approval. If some parts are not placed or have problems, SlabBoard asks "Send anyway?" first.
- SlabBoard saves the layout, reserves the inventory slabs and emails the customer. You see "Layout sent to" and their email.
The email has the subject "Please approve your countertop layout" and a Review layout button. Replies go to your company email.
What happens next:
- The job moves to Awaiting Layout Approval (if it was Sold, Template Scheduled or Templated).
- A row is added to the job's Layout approval tab with status Pending.
- The customer gets a frozen copy of the two images (countertop preview and slab sheet). Changes you make to the layout later don't change what they see or sign.
Send a layout made in other software
If you lay out jobs in another program, you can still collect the signature in SlabBoard.
- Open the job, click the Slabs & shop tab and scroll to the Layout approval table.
- Click Upload layout, pick the Layout image, the Slab and add Notes for the customer if you want.
- On the new row, click Send to customer and confirm.
Uploading alone does not email the customer. Click Send to customer.
Follow the answer
Open the job, click the Slabs & shop tab and scroll to the Layout approval table. Each row shows the layout picture, Status, Customer comment, Signed by and Responded.
| Status | What happened | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Sent, no answer yet | Awaiting Layout Approval |
| Approved | Customer signed, or you clicked Mark approved | Moves to In Production |
| Changes Requested | Customer asked for changes and left a comment | Stays as it was |
Important: SlabBoard does not notify you when the customer answers. Check this tab. The Jobs needing attention list on the Today page shows jobs that are still awaiting approval and haven't changed for 3 days, with "Follow up on layout approval".
When the customer asks for changes
- Read their comment in the Customer comment column.
- Fix the drawing or the slab layout.
- Click ✉ Send for approval again in the slab layout. A new row is added and the customer gets a new link. Old rows stay as history.
Important: Don't use Send to customer on a row that says Changes Requested. The customer can no longer answer that one. Always send a new layout.
When the customer approves in person
If the customer approves at the showroom or by phone, click Mark approved on the row and confirm. The job moves to production. No signature is saved.
Limits to know
- The link works for 60 days from when you send it. After that, send the layout again.
- The customer sees two pictures, not the 3D view.
- The approval page is only reachable from the email. It is not listed on the customer's job page.
